01 THE BRIEF

A working brokerage under a name it had outgrown

Jacob had been placing capital for about five years, with the relationships and the track record that come with that, under a name that no longer described the business. What he did not have was an identity or a site that matched it. He places business-purpose capital: working capital, merchant cash advances, equipment financing. He is not a bank and not a direct lender, which turns out to be the fact that shaped every decision that followed.

It is also a category where buyers arrive already suspicious. Merchant cash advance has a reputation, most of it earned by other people. So the job was not to look impressive. It was to look like someone you could believe.

02 THE DECISIONS

The rename had to come before anything could be designed

This was an established brokerage, five years in, trading under a name that no longer said what it had become. Renaming a working business is harder than naming a new one, because there are existing relationships that have to follow you across. The new one came out of the founder's own story, someone who came up in financing and watched banks turn down businesses that deserved a yes. Ballast is the weight that keeps a boat upright in bad water. It cleared a USPTO Class 36 knockout search before a dollar went into signage, because a name you have to abandon twice costs more than the search does.

We took the prices off

The first instinct on a funding site is a calculator that spits out a number. We removed every one. He is a broker who places capital with lenders, not a lender quoting terms, so a number on his page would be a promise he is not the one making. What stayed is the education: how a factor rate actually works, in plain English, with a line making clear the arithmetic is not an offer. That is the harder version and the honest one.

The disclosures are a page, not a footer

Merchant cash advance is the most reputation-loaded corner of business funding, and most sites in it bury the legal text where nobody reads it. His is a real page with its own place in the navigation, including a section stating plainly that the business does not quote rates. In a category where buyers arrive suspicious, publishing what everyone else hides is the actual differentiator.

The application asks four minutes of questions, and nothing scary

One click sorts working capital from equipment financing, and from there it is plain questions in plain language. No Social Security number, no tax ID, no bank login. An owner who is already nervous about who they are talking to will abandon a form that opens by asking for the things fraudsters ask for.

Parchment and pine, not fintech blue

Every competitor in the category looks like a banking app. This one is built on parchment and ink charcoal with pine green as a core color, a serif for the headlines and a monospace for the labels. It reads like something a person made and stands by, which is the whole positioning: a down-to-earth honest conversation rather than bank-speak.

03 WHAT WAS DELIVERED

Renaming

An established brokerage trading under a name it had outgrown. Trueballast came out of the founder's own story and cleared a USPTO Class 36 knockout search before a dollar was spent on signage.

Brand and wordmark

A full identity: the Waterline mark, the palette, the type system, and the voice, documented in a brand kit the owner keeps.

The site

Eight pages designed and built from scratch, including the disclosures a lending business is required to publish and most competitors bury.

A two-path apply flow

The application sorts working capital from equipment financing in one click, then asks four minutes of plain questions. No Social Security number, no tax ID, no bank logins.

Territory is nationwide with California excluded, built as a list the owner can edit rather than a rule buried in code.

04 WHAT HE SAID

I have to say this is where it's at regarding anything websites. The pure eye popping power of my website done by Hewstone is unreal. For how Turn-Key these websites really are... It is absolutely crazy when you also think about how much other developers have tried to get you to pay in the past.

Jacob V., President, Trueballast Financial

His words, unedited, left as he wrote them.

If you place capital, broker deals, or sell anything you have to quote

This is what a build looks like when the category is full of distrust and the answer is to be plainer than everyone else. The price for a site like it is published before you speak to anyone.
